The challenges

Pharmaceutical distribution requires precision, speed, and compliance with strict regulations on medication traceability. The growing variety of items, combined with the need to fulfill orders within tight time windows, rendered the pre-existing automatic picking system (A-Frame) insufficient.

 

The main challenge was therefore to find a scalable, efficient solution capable of ensuring operational continuity while minimizing picking times and errors.

The solution

To meet these requirements, Re Roberto S.p.A. initiated a collaboration with GPI, implementing the RIEDL Phasys system.

This advanced technology introduced:

 

  • High-speed robots (up to ) for fast and precise fulfillment.

  • A modular and scalable architecture, with two 37-meter lines and three robots per line.

  • An internal dual-output buffer system (Dual Side Buffer) to ensure fault tolerance and delivery speed.

  • Integration with FEFO (First Expired, First Out) logic for effective expiry date management.

Thanks to RIEDL Phasys, Re Roberto S.p.A. has achieved significant improvements:

 

  • Increased productivity, with a picking capacity of up to 10,000 items in 4 hours.

  • Optimization of item management, exceeding 90% automation in order fulfillment.

  • Reduction of operating costs, thanks to maximized efficiency and the elimination of the need for standby backup systems.
